Founding Lead iOS Engineer

Client Category: Health Technology Startup

Series Funding: Pre-Seed Funded

Background

A health-tech startup that focused on health care and patients dealing with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions was in search of a Founding iOS Developer for their growing startup. This candidate was going to be their eventual CTO in approximately a year.

The Challenge

In addition to having a background in software development in the iOS technical stack, the candidates needed a strong understanding of machine learning, algorithms, and mathematics considering the nature of their mobile application.

The candidates need to have proven experience in developing applications from prototype to completion, so candidates, where most of their experience is siloed in one part of the software development life cycle, are not preferred. (This usually happens in larger companies.) A background and genuine interest in healthcare and the betterment of humanity is a plus.

Health care, but not telehealth considering that type of app development was not what the client was building.

This was also their first internal direct hire since the genesis of their startup company, during our initial discovery, advice on appropriate categorization of employees (W2 vs 1099) was also provided.

The Solution

After the requirements for the candidate profile were created we created first draft job descriptions and mock assessments for the team to help create a starting point. We then created talent pools on LinkedIn by curating lists of qualified candidates to reach out to.

We created outreach templates that quickly informed the candidate about the opportunity, including the industry, responsibilities, and compensation. Approximately 75-100 active and passive candidates were reached out to.

Once the talent was identified, the iOS candidates were video-screened. Upon selection, the qualified candidates were submitted to the client along with their interview summary, resume, and LinkedIn profile only after giving their written consent to being considered for the position. The interviews were coordinated with the client and their technical advisors. Feedback from the candidates was collected to ensure a mutual fit for the position. Candidates were also given regular updates as information about the interview process and next steps was made available.

Testimonial

“Wow, fantastic interview notes. I really appreciate how detailed and informative they are. Absolutely fantastic. The relevant experience section is very helpful as well - especially understanding their role in the team, and what she specifically developed for the application. Appreciate that you highlight things that aren't always included in the resume such as size of team, roles they worked with, languages used, platforms/tools, development practices like agile etc.”
