When you’re interviewing candidates for your start-up, asking what metrics they value can be a great way to indicate what is valuable to them as a specialists in their field.
Just about any discipline you can think of has a metric behind it that can be tracked to determine how well something is performing. Sometimes these are called KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).

Marketing metrics can include KPIs such as; email open rate, click-through rate, cost-per-lead, conversion rate, bounce rate, returning visitors, follower count, and advertising budgets.
Software Engineering & Application Development metrics can include KPIs such as velocity, bug rates, crash rates, active users, session length, load speed, and app downloads.
Creative & Design can have a mixture of metrics that might overlap. Usually, design and creative teams include specialists such as Graphic Designers, UI/UX, Localization, Copywriting, Photography, and Branding. These teams often overlap with marketing, engineering, and sales teams. Outside of the metrics listed above, some metrics can include KPIs such as accessibility, brand recognition, scroll time, or navigation.
When building your ideal candidate profile for your start-up, take into consideration the kind of metrics you would want your candidate to value when interviewing them.
