Why companies can’t find candidates on job boards.

Companies often struggle to find qualified candidates when posting job openings on platforms like Indeed.com and LinkedIn for several reasons. Firstly, the sheer volume of job postings on these platforms can overwhelm job seekers, making it difficult for a single job listing to stand out. This leads to a flood of applications, but not all applicants are genuinely qualified for the position, resulting in a time-consuming and often fruitless screening process for employers.

Secondly, the rise of automated application processes can inadvertently exclude qualified candidates. There are ATSs (applicant tracking systems) that will rank resume’s by a percentage value. These systems often rely on specific keywords and criteria, which may inadvertently filter out potential employees who possess relevant skills and experience but do not use the exact keywords or phrases chosen by the employer. For example, if the position is a paid media specialist position and the resume does not include a relevant technology such as DV360, Bing Ads, or Facebook Ads. As a result, companies may miss out on excellent candidates who might have been perfect for the job. As a result, it is always imperative to properly interview the candidate and uncover candidate attributes that might not be prevalent in the interview.

In essence, while online job platforms have made it easier to connect with potential candidates, the sheer volume of applicants and the reliance on automated processes can complicate the search for genuinely qualified individuals, leading to the struggle that many companies face in finding the right talent. In addition to this, passive talent (talent that is not actively looking for jobs) won’t be as likely to be submitting resumes into open jobs nearly as much as someone who is actively looking.
