The WARN Act
I actually on recently found out about the WARN act useful website after listening to one of my favorite podcast called “Talent Takeover”. Essentially it is a government website that shows layoffs and plant closures in the United States. Here is a short description of what the website is according to Wikipedia. “
“The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 (the "WARN Act") is a U.S. labor law that protects employees, their families, and communities by requiring most employers with 100 or more employees to provide notification 60 calendar days in advance of planned closings and mass layoffs of employees. In 2001, there were about 2,000 mass layoffs and plant closures that were subject to WARN advance notice requirements and that affected about 660,000 employees.”
Even during my own job search I was able to see companies that I initially expressed interest in that were having plant closures and layoffs which allowed me to make a more informed decision about my own career search.
Here is the link for the Maryland WARN act page. https://www.dllr.state.md.us/employment/warn.shtml - It will showcase whether a company is having a Plant Closure or Mass Layoff.
